Beginner training plan
Your first lessonFocus on building rapport, assessing their current skill level, and introducing fundamentals. Begin with dynamic warmups, basic shooting form and dribbling skills.
Lesson 11+Begin setting pefromance goals, tracking progress, decision making, toughness, conditioning and full court play.
Lesson 4-10Combo drills, shooting off dribble, passing under pressure, layups with both hands and more defense principles.
Lesson 2-3Introduce structured drills such as dribbling with cones, proper shooting mechanics , basic layup footwork and finishes, Defensive stance and slides, Focus on repetitions, positive reinforcement, and game-based learning (e.g., 1v1 closeouts, dribble relays).
Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with kids I tend to be more gentle. I have to build their knowledge of basketball and allow them to see if their physical abilities can combat with their mental abilities.
Working with teenagersWhen working with teenagers we adapt certain skills for that position they want to focus on.
