When it comes to ball control and coaching someone through shooting Coach JR has literally turned my poor shooting techniques into being one of the best shooters in College basketball as a freshman. Shooting 43.7% this year coming off the bench, putting me at top 3 in college this past season. From ball handling and attention to detail on ball rotation, feet placement to following through. All of these things play a big part in our training.

Each session, each workout and even games I am able to increase my basketball skills because of what I work on game like skills and drills. We watch film before our training over previous games on what I can do to be better or making the right decisions. I really enjoy training with coach!

Coming into my first session Coach help me realize that I was limiting my scoring abilities. I was very passive and very careful about taking three pointers. What I learned since training with Coach JR is that working on your craft and putting in the extra time really does play a part. From my freshman year to my sophomore year, I’ve developed my jump shot, ball handling skills and overall building a competitive nature for the game of basketball. His attention to detail and motivation for each individual player is what makes his a great trainer and even better coach!

What I learned from the sessions was how to control more of the offensive rhythm and to be more confident with my ability to get to spots to score. I enjoyed trying new ball handling drills I have never done before because it strengthened my ball control. The best part is how much competition drills we got to do without stoping. I thoroughly enjoyed these workout sessions and competing with the other players.

How it works

Youth players

Working with kidsI usually adapt with the talent level for starters and how hard they’re willing to be pushed everyday. Being competitive, developing a skill set and building a strong foundation on the basics. For example; teaching the basic fundamentals because there are so many things to be taught while developing. My lessons are fun and I love to keep everyone engaged on what’s being taught. Making one or two moves to move a defender or when to shoot, shot fake or drive to the basket. All of these keys can help develop a better basketball IG.

Working with teenagersBasic principles are sometimes over looked because of the detail on what’s being taught. A basic shot fake, swing pivot step, triple threat with the ball and making one or two moves at a defender can all make you a better basketball player. I focus on the physical fitness and competitiveness. This is the age when details become important, changing speeds with or without the basketball. Using ball screens such as; off ball screens, curling or slipping to the basket. Using your weak hand to drive down hill to score or making a simple pocket/ pin down pass to your open teammate off the ball screen.
