Introduction to basic game rules and guidelines. Weโre getting familiar with the game starting off with stretching and introduction to court lines, basic rules, and positions in the sport. We will also go over triple threat stance that signifies weโre ready to any passing, dribbling, or shooting. We will start the to learn the dribbling process while keeping our head up and away from the ground/ball and finally finish off with footwork.
The further lessons will include specific practices. Like for example ball handling work. We will go through a series of โobstaclesโ to get around when practicing different dribbling moves. Another example would be finishing and off hand work when working with the ball. We can learn different scoring methods such as floaters, reverse layups, etc.
We will start to include real-game play mechanics during lessons. We will also bring defense to the table teaching basic defensive slides and techniques to stay defending your opponent. We will then practice off-ball movements, meaning backdoor cuts, v cuts, off ball screens and such. We will then go over different combinations of dribble moves to be able to get free on defenders. If we have three on three opportunities we will engage in this just to have game like situations. We will also work on rebounding, the importance of close outs and box outs.
We now focus on learning passing: chest pass, bounce pass, and overhead passes while also learning to catch said pass. We will do passing drills in which we are also moving while passing allowing for a better development of hand eye coordination. Shooting practice and form development/mechanics will be next. Using the BEEF method ( Balance, Eyes, Elbow, Follow through) we will start to develop from shorter distance shots to further out.
