Beginner training plan
Your first lessonMy first lesson would start off talking about why they would like to play and what there goals are for the training, even if it’s just to have fun enjoying the game. I will then ask them to dribble, shoot and run to see what level they are on and assess what the best next steps would be.
Lesson 11+After making sure the fundamentals are being developed we will the up the challenge to begin working on the fundamentals with your off hand. The same progressions we did with the layup for your dominant hand we will begin to do with your non dominant hand. In shooting drills we will start to move away from stationary shooting and move to shooting off the dribble or from different angles and farther from the basketball. All these progressions will go by the students mastery and comfortability. Making sure they feel confident in what the have learned and are ready to and new skills
Lesson 4-10We will continue to make sure the most important rules are mastered and the player understands the game. We will continue to drill the fundamentals adding one step at a time until mastery. For example starting with a stationary layup we will then incorporate jumping off the correct foot. We will then incorporate dribbling up to the layup and jumping off the correct foot. Once the player feels comfortable doing that we will try doing it at “game speed”
Lesson 2-3We will talk about the rules of the game before we go into our lessons. We will then start to work on the basic fundamentals. How to shoot a layup and practice the form necessary for shooting. How to dribble a basketball. We will work on conditioning at a level that is not to demanding for the player.
