Beginner training plan
Your first lessonIntroduce the basics of pickleball in a fun and relaxed way. Start with paddle grip, ready position, footwork, and court positioning. Teach forehand and backhand dinks at the kitchen line, basic volleys, and simple serves/returns. Focus on consistency and keeping the ball in play rather than power. Finish with mini-games and cooperative rally drills to build confidence. Favorite drills include dink rallies, self-taps, and target serving.
Lesson 11+Advanced beginner development focuses on strategy, anticipation, and building a complete game. Lessons emphasize consistency under pressure, faster hands at the kitchen line, spin serves/returns, and advanced shot placement. Players work on recognizing opponents’ weaknesses, transitioning efficiently, and improving teamwork in doubles play. Drills become more competitive and game-like, including speed-up battles, defensive resets, and situational point play. The goal is to help players confidently compete in recreational and league-level games while continuing to refine technique and strategy.
Lesson 4-10These lessons build stronger technique, strategy, and court awareness. Players work on third shot drops, volleys, overheads, resets, and controlled drives. Introduce stacking basics, shot selection, and how to move as a doubles team. More live-ball drills and point play are added to improve decision-making under pressure. Favorite drills include skinny singles, dink games, attack-and-reset drills, and target placement challenges. Players should begin feeling comfortable in recreational games and improving consistency.
Lesson 2-3Players will begin developing consistency and movement around the court. We focus on serving deeper, returning with control, transition zone movement, and basic third shot drops. Introduce scoring, doubles positioning, communication, and kitchen rules. Drills include crosscourt dinking, volley reaction drills, serve-and-return repetitions, and transition resets. By the end of these lessons, beginners should be able to sustain short rallies and understand game flow.

Youth players
Working with kidsWhen working with kids, I focus on creating a fun, positive, and encouraging environment that keeps them engaged while learning the fundamentals of pickleball. Lessons are broken into simple steps with age-appropriate drills, games, and challenges that help build coordination, confidence, and teamwork. I use plenty of movement-based activities, target games, and rally competitions to make learning exciting while teaching proper technique, sportsmanship, and court awareness.

Working with teenagersWhen coaching teenagers, I combine skill development with strategy and competitive gameplay to keep lessons engaging and challenging. Sessions focus on improving technique, consistency, footwork, shot selection, and match play while helping players build confidence and athletic discipline. I adapt lessons to each player's skill level and goals, whether they are learning recreationally, preparing for tournaments, or improving overall athletic performance.

What you need to bringβ€’ Your own pickleball paddle (highly recommended β€” using your own helps you improve faster) β€’ Comfortable athletic shoes with good court traction (non-marking soles) β€’ Water bottle and a small towel β€’ Comfortable athletic clothes Optional but helpful: Sunglasses, hat, and sweatband for outdoor sessions.

What I can bringI provide plenty of pickleball paddles (including beginner-friendly lighter ones), official pickleballs, and extra balls for drills. I can also supply portable nets cones, for private/small group lessons when needed. Just let me know in advance if you need a specific paddle weight or style.
