Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI would begin by teaching the fundamental elements and rules of the game. For example, I would show the client how to hit a dink while also explaining the rules associated with it, such as the fact that stepping on the kitchen line while hitting a volley is a fault. This helps the client develop proper technique and an understanding of the game at the same time.
Lesson 2-3introduce additional shots and rules of the game. This includes teaching the baseline game, explaining the difference between a third-shot drop and a third-shot drive, and helping the client understand when each shot should be used. I would also introduce scoring and court positioning so they develop a complete understanding of how the game is played.
Lesson 4-10 continue building on the client’s improvement with these shots while gradually introducing more challenging drills. The goal is to test their consistency, decision-making, and ability to execute under pressure, helping them transfer their skills from practice into real-game situations.
Lesson 11+After Lesson 11, the focus shifts to building consistency while continuing to reinforce the rules and fundamentals of the game. Once the client can sustain rallies of five or more shots in a row, half-court drills and exercises become important. These drills help develop control, accuracy, decision-making, and the consistency needed to succeed in match play.
