Beginner training plan
Your first lessonI focus on making beginners feel comfortable and excited to learn. We start with a quick warm-up and court overview, then go over the rules, scoring, and basic paddle grip. We introduce the serve and return, with fun, low-pressure drills like dink rallies and drop feeding to build hand-eye coordination and timing.
Lesson 11+These lessons build advanced consistency and introduce strategic thinking. We review video clips of the player’s form, identify areas for improvement, and refine their shot selection. We also focus on mental toughness, shot variation, and reading opponents. Each session includes competitive play to prepare them for local round robins or rec-level tournaments.
Lesson 4-10This stage focuses on game development. We drill third shot drops, volleys, and movement strategies. Players learn how to reset the ball, communicate with a partner, and handle different game scenarios. Sessions mix skill drills with mini-games to reinforce tactics like stacking, poaching, and staying patient at the net.
Lesson 2-3Now that the player is familiar with the court and rules, we work on improving consistency with forehands, backhands, and serves. I introduce the non-volley zone (kitchen) concept and start drills like cooperative dinks and transition zone footwork. We also begin light rallying and basic positioning during doubles play.
