About your singing coach

Artist and educator with a BFA and MFA from Carnegie Mellon University. My artistic journey has taken me across the globe, with performances in Paris, Amsterdam, Switzerland, Panama, New York, and Chicago. Sharing my passion for the arts, I've taught at prestigious institutions like CMU, Northwestern, and Roosevelt universities. Collaborating with my vocalist wife Anne, we've recorded four albums, with our latest in 2023 airing on 100 radio stations worldwide. As a founding member of Cabaret Professionals, I draw on this rich background to teach and inspire from my home studio in the vibrant city of Chicago. Let's create, learn, and make music together!

At age 60 now, I can look back upon all the musical collaborators and vocal coaches/voice teachers who've instructed me and say with confidence that my time beside the piano with Mark Burnell remains the most pedagogically significant in coaxing me out of amateur cabaret jazz singing and into a space where a professional career was an option. For what I wanted to do, it was also keenly important that I work with a pianist who could move seamlessly from a jazz chart to musical theatre sheet music to a challenging anthology of classical art songs, offering critical feedback as a pro singer himself.

Mark is such a great patient voice coach who knows how to pull out the best in each individual , and is so sensitive to what the student wants to work on , but sensitive to what the student needs .
