Beginner training plan
Your first lessonGet to know each other and determine skill ceiling/floor. Learn/review basic stance, grip for forehand/backhand shots, figure out if you’re a OHBH or 2HBH, how to keep score, and basic gameplay/strategy for singles/doubles and even Australian if you’re interested.
Lesson 11+The remainder of lessons will fall into dominating the mental game. We touch into this lightly in previous lessons, but teaching and understanding the mental aspect becomes easier for everyone involved once proficiency is displayed.
Lesson 4-10Lesson 4 will revolve mostly upon Tennis Etiquette and not being a disturbance on the court or at any tennis event, with review on forehand/backhand shots from the service line.
We’ll back up to the baseline and start doing full shots. Cross court, down the line, with more emphasis on shot placement.
SERVING. This is what will take the most time for anybody. I will teach you the strategy behind 1st/2nd serves, and the 3 different kinds of serves. (Flat, kick, slice)
Lesson 2-3Quick review of everything from lesson 1, then into positioning on the court (S/D/A)
Forehands/backhands from service line, focusing primarily on technique improving touch
May slightly touch into Tennis Etiquette as well
Youth players
Working with kidsI have 7 nieces and 2 nephews. If I have learned anything, it’s that they have minuscule attention spans. My lessons are designed to be engaging, with lots of input from the kids. If I’m trying to teach them about volleys but can’t hold their attention, we need to learn something else that day! Flexibility, praise and patience is key to working with kids. And once the kids like you it’s easy to keep them engaged!
