Beginner training plan

Your first lessonwill focus on assessing your current skill level and reinforcing the fundamentals. We’ll start with a warm-up that includes dynamic stretching and short-court mini tennis to ease into the session. The main portion of the lesson will focus on forehand and backhand groundstrokes, paying close attention to grip, footwork, and follow-through. We’ll also introduce volley technique, with an emphasis on forehand volleys and the basics of the backhand volley, since that’s an area you’d like to improve. We’ll wrap up with some light rallying, serve practice, and a brief discussion to set goals for upcoming sessions.

Lesson 4-10will shift toward applying your skills in game-like scenarios and point play. Depending on how many more sessions you can schedule, each day will highlight specific themes such as serve and return practice, consistency under pressure from the baseline, approach shots leading into net play, and basic point construction strategies. You’ll also engage in mini-games and match simulations like tie-breakers and cross-court competitions to build tactical awareness and confidence. The backhand volley will continue to be integrated into drills and live points to strengthen that weak area. Every session will end with a short recap to highlight progress and set mini-goals.

Lesson 2-3focus on developing technique and building consistency across your core strokes. After a short warm-up, we’ll work on cross-court rally drills for both forehand and backhand, gradually adding movement and targets. We’ll dedicate time to improving your serve by focusing on toss consistency, contact point, and smooth rhythm. Your backhand volley will continue to be a focus, with progressive drills involving various types of feeds to challenge your control and footwork. We’ll finish with a light rally that incorporates both baseline and net play, followed by a serve plus first-ball drill to simulate match situations.
