About your pickleball coach

I’ve been coaching across private and public schools, as well as club travel organizations, since I was 16, with experience spanning my twenties, thirties, forties, and beyond. I've coached every major sport, winning numerous championships and preparing students for collegiate and even professional careers. My approach involves discussing each student’s goals, setting up a tailored workout routine and evaluation based on USAPA standards, and then crafting lessons that address both their skills and strategic understanding of the game.

Beginner training plan
Your first lessonWell the very first lesson depending on player experience. We can work on most every shot selection that you will need to take during a typical game and then I will send you your results of your skill levels. Or we can work through all of the situations with strategy and repetition.
Lesson 11+If you were the serious competitor and we have more than 10 lessons, now it's about drilling and challenging yourself and putting you in situations where your footwork and your court positioning is most important.
Lesson 4-10If we get to more than three lessons we would want to refine your consistency your footwork and your strategy.
Lesson 2-3We can then continuously work on your weakest parts of the game to strengthen them and refresh some of the areas that you are best at. We should especially work on the three shots being the serve the return and third shot selection whether it's a drop or a drive.

What you need to bring If we are going to be working out doors and it is a hot day of course sunscreen or a visor and plenty of liquids and potentially a few healthy snacks or a good idea to bring. Your favorite paddle and if you have a specific ball you would like to hit around but I will bring several really good quality outdoor balls and if it is indoors I will bring all of the indoor balls.

What I can bring If a paddle is needed upon request I will bring that for the client or clients. I will bring all of the pickleball balls that are needed and make sure that we have a place to practice uninterrupted.

Rick's lesson was quite effective. He communicated clearly what I needed to do and how to do it, which made a noticeable difference. He's definitely knowledgeable and really skilled at getting me to improve, honestly a coach in the best sense of the word. Though I want to cement some of these improvements and work on more holes in my game, I feel optimistic about future progress. If you’re looking for a dedicated coach who knows their stuff, Rick is definitely worth considering.

Rick makes a good coach because he understands the mechanics of the game, can identify problem areas, and reteach the correct skills needed in isolated formats so that the skill required is rebuilt for more productive play. He devises pertinent drills that convert the necessary skills into cognitive retention for ongoing success. As a player, he continually works on his own game, learning new shots and strategies in an effort to perfect them in gameplay. Ultimately, he is able to transfers this personal endeavor into the skill break down required for coaching. Rick has a very outgoing personality and connects in a friendly manner with all people. They immediately feel comfortable and this allows for an easy coaching connection and learning curve for the individual. He is very competitive and works toward high standards from those with whom he interacts. In all aspects of coaching, he gives 110 percent of his energy, insights and expertise.
