I’d played pickleball casually with friends a few times and really enjoyed it, so I decided to take lessons with Taylor. Best decision I’ve made in a while. As someone who played sports in high school and college, I missed that mix of competition and fun — and pickleball has been the perfect fit. Taylor’s coaching helped me clean up my fundamentals and gave me a real game plan on the court. I’ve definitely found my new sport.

I recently signed my 9-year-old son Ryan up for a few lessons and Taylor did an awesome job with him. He kept things fun and easy to follow, while still teaching Ryan the basics. How it works

Each lesson depends on the skill level of the players. If you are beginner, I start with an introduction to the court, rules, and basic scoring. Then we cover grip, paddle positioning, and the serve. I use simple rally drills (like cooperative dinking) so beginners feel comfortable hitting the ball and moving on the court. My goal is to build confidence right away.

Lesson 11+At this stage, players move from “just playing” to playing with purpose. We focus on advanced strategies like third-shot drops vs. drives, transitioning to the net, and winning through smart shot selection. Drills emphasize placement, consistency under pressure, and adapting to different opponents. Players also begin to track progress through match play, tournament prep, and tailored feedback. For women in particular, I focus on building confidence, mental toughness, and competitive readiness — while keeping lessons supportive and fun.

Lesson 4-10Players progress to strategy, shot selection, and point play. We refine serves, returns, and third-shot drops while reinforcing consistency. Drills and live play are combined so beginners gain experience reading opponents and working with partners. By the tenth lesson, players can confidently rally, play full games, and start competing socially or recreationally.

Lesson 2-3We add movement and consistency drills, focusing on returning serves, dinking, and basic volleys. Beginners learn court positioning, how to keep a rally going, and start to play short games with coaching guidance. These lessons emphasize fun, repetition, and building good habits.

Advanced training plan

Your first lessonEvaluate strengths, weaknesses, and playing style through live rallies and drills. Focus on core advanced skills such as third-shot drop consistency, speed-up decisions, and transition zone movement. Create a personalized improvement plan.

Lesson 11+Ongoing training is tailored toward tournament prep and peak performance. Players refine advanced strategies, learn how to exploit opponents’ weaknesses, and train for pressure situations. Lessons focus on polishing high-level consistency, advanced defensive resets, and match-play analysis. For women especially, I emphasize building confidence, aggression at the net, and empowering smart, fearless play in competition.

Lesson 4-10Deep dive into competitive play. Drills cover reset shots, roll volleys, and placement strategies. Match simulations emphasize partner communication, court coverage, and adapting to higher-level opponents. Mental toughness and endurance also become a focus.

Lesson 2-3Work on advanced shot selection and strategy: drives vs. drops, dinking under pressure, and countering fast exchanges at the kitchen. Emphasis on anticipation, footwork, and reading opponents. Players start applying tactics in structured point play.

Youth players

Working with kidsI keep lessons fun, active, and positive. Kids learn the basics of pickleball through games and simple drills that build coordination, teamwork, and confidence. My focus is on making them love the sport while developing solid fundamentals.

Working with teenagersWith teens, I balance skill development and competitive play. Lessons emphasize strategy, shot variety, and game confidence, while encouraging teamwork and personal growth. I aim to help teenagers progress into strong recreational or competitive players who enjoy both the challenge and the community of pickleball.
