"Coach Dean and his lesson plan was absolutely perfect for me. We/he spent time evaluating my skill level set up the lesson accordingly. The drills were designed to focus on the fundamentals which I really appreciate. He gave me an honest evaluation of strengths and weaknesses in a very positive way. Coach Dean really helped from the ground up with clear direction that made sense. Every bit of instruction came with an explanation and action/example behind it. I can’t wait to get a couple more lessons in and see where my game goes with Coach Deans instruction.

A passionate, San Diego, California based pickleball coach dedicated to elevating players through structured, high-energy sessions focusing on technique, strategy, and mental toughness.
"Here’s a polished review you can use: Brent is an outstanding pickleball instructor who quickly identifies the root cause of your mistakes and explains them in a way that’s easy to understand and apply. In just one session, he helped me improve my drives by focusing on proper footwork, balance, and weight transfer instead of relying only on my arms for power. He emphasizes staying relaxed and generating power from the legs, hips, and shoulders, which made a huge difference in my consistency and control. Brent is patient, detail-oriented, and truly invested in helping players improve. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to elevate their game efficiently and with clear, actionable coaching.

I start by understanding the player’s current level, strengths, goals, and pain points. We run through some live hitting, serve/return, third shot drops, dinks, and transition play to assess movement and shot selection. From there, I tailor a game plan specific to the player’s needs—whether it’s footwork, shot precision, or strategy.

When teaching kids pickleball, I focus on making lessons fun, interactive, and engaging while building their fundamental skills. Instead of traditional drills, I incorporate games, challenges, and storytelling to keep their attention. Short, high-energy sessions with lots of movement help match their attention spans, so I break lessons into quick 5-10 minute segments. Instructions are kept simple, with plenty of demonstrations and hands-on activities. I also modify equipment and rules as needed, such as using lower nets, allowing drop serves, and even using foam balls for younger players. The emphasis is on hand-eye coordination, basic rallying, and fun footwork exercises rather than strict technique. Serving challenges involve hitting big targets instead of focusing on perfect placement, and cooperative rally games encourage teamwork and sportsmanship. I also introduce basic doubles strategies through playful exercises while fostering a positive environment where kids cheer each other on. By blending skill development with engaging activities, I create a learning experience that keeps kids excited to play and improve.
